Nextel Cup Race at Lowe’s

First off let me say this:

THANK GOD JIMMIE JOHNSON DIDN’T WIN!

It was an interesting race since the cars had a small fuel cell.  A lot of pit stops, a lot of people taking chances on tires and gas.  It was great to see Kasey Kahne in victory lane, even though I would have preferred Carl to sweep the spring races at Lowe’s.  But I really can’t complain – all Roush cars ended in the top ten!  Can’t ask for a better weekend than that!  Carl moved up 3 spots in the standings to 14, and Greg Biffle moved up 1 spot to 13.  I sure hope that both make the chase!

Geekin’ Out Part 2

This 3 day weekend has been good for geekin’ out.  I’ve accomplished a lot this weekend on the technical front.  My old Athlon 750 is now an OpenSUSE Box.  It took some getting used to, but I really think that OpenSUSE will work better than the Fedora Cores that I have used in the past.  I’ve hit a bit of a snag with some software I want to run on it, so hopefully my buddy who is big on Linux will help me out.  More to come on this box later, once I get some of the projects up and running!

The second thing that I’ve started developing this weekend is this web site again.  It’s been over 2 years since I took it offline for a rebuild.  I am not sure if I am completely satisified with the way it works right now, but it’s a big improvement over the old site.  I’ve definitely seen the light when it comes to CSS.  Once you design something you like, you can really develop it across mulitple pages easily.  I even took the time to create a custom 404 page.  It’s a start, so hopefully as I learn more about CSS things will get easier for me.

Busch race at Charlotte

I am so happy to see my driver Carl Edwards back in Victory Lane!  That boy needed a win.  Hopefully this will be the beginning of a turnaround to his season.  Now he just needs to win a couple of Nextel Cup races to be in the chase this year!

Congrats, Carl!

Geekin’ Out!

So it is 1:12 in the morning and what am I doing?  Installing OpenSUSE 10.1 on my old Athlon 750 box that has been collecting dust.  I always have big plans for my old computers when I upgrade to a new one, but never follow through.  It’s only been a year in the making, but it is finally happening.  I have some plans and projects for that box once I get the linux system configured to my liking.

Time to learn me some PHP and MySQL for starters!  I have a few other plans on the horizon also and will probably mention them in the future.  It’s been a long time since I’ve stayed up this late to geek out.  Something like a couple of years.  Eeek!

The new hobby I’m considering taking…

Last night I saw an ad on TV for a local sporting goods shop and they featured an awesome Kayaks by Hobie. It is a peddle-based system and has a rudder. There are some optional accessories like a sailboat mast kit and such. So I went online to Hobie and fell in love with this model:

It’s called the Hobie Mirage Adventure. I guess I need to start saving my money since it isn’t cheap. Also I’m going to have to get racks mounts and a rack installed on my truck top. This thing looks like so much fun… and it’s exercise too!

Life is good.

These last couple of weeks have been busy, but very productive.  Work has been going well – we are so ready for Summer session to begin on Tuesday.  I’m so glad it’s a 3 day weekend.  There’s a lot of NASCAR to watch and there is yard work to be done.  Oh and maybe a good house cleaning is in order.  My kitties do a great job at making messes!  Cocoa is now having issues with hairballs.  Poor girl – it was only a matter of time since she is a long-haired siamese.

I got some of those catnip bubbles today at Petco and Cocoa just loves them.  It was pretty funny watching them pop when Cocoa would attack them.  I guess I should go ahead and invest in that bubble machine I saw at Petco since the bubbles are a hit with Cocoa.  I forgot how much of an art form it is to blowing successful bubbles.  I felt like a kid again.  Heh.

General Update – May 15, 2006

My poor blog has been ignored for the past week :( So here are some quick updates:

Life in general: Going very well. Can’t complain at all. Had a great weekend! More to come on this subject at a later date.

Rick Adelman firing: I was shocked watching the news conferences. The Kings General Manager looked like someone had kicked him in the stomach. It must have been tough having to fire his longtime friend. Adelman’s conference was even worse. All he got before the firing was a 5 minute phone call from a Maloof brother? Please. A coach that lead the team to 8 playoff berths deserved better.

Maloof Brothers: I’m really disappointed in them. So disappointed I’m about ready to give up on the Kings. Their hands-on approach is turning out to be a nightmare. They should a long look at how great the San Francisco 49ers are doing with their hands-on owners. My hope in the future of the team greatly went down when they fired Coach Adelman.

Replacement Rumors: I sure hope that the rumors are not true about Don Nelson. If Nellie becomes the coach of the Kings, I’m done. Aboslutely done. I’m hoping that the Kings will pick someone like Stan Van Gundy, Terry Porter, Byron Scott, or Elston Turner. There are also rumors floating around that Coach Larry Brown will be bought out of his contract with the Knicks. I’m sorry, not interested in him either.

Saturday’s Race: I am so thankful that Greg Biffle finally broke his streak of bad luck and won the race. I just wish his teammate Carl could get a win. Maybe he will this Saturday at the All-Star Race.

Thank you, Rick Adelman!

Well, this has been one hell of a week for Kings fans.  First the loss and end of the season Friday and now today something is happening regarding Rick Adelman I was saddened to just get the following Sacramento Kings News alert via the Sacramento Bee:

Source: Adelman out as Kings coach

The Rick Adelman era in Sacramento is over.

According to inside sources, Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie is expected to announce at a 3 p.m. news conference today that the coach who led them to eight consecutive playoff berths will not be back next season.

Please oh please… don’t let the Don Nelson rumors be true. :(

What are the Maloofs thinking?
